Real-Time Mode became generally available on Spark Declarative Pipelines on Databricks

The main development was general availability of Real-Time Mode for Spark Declarative Pipelines on Databricks, announced on 29 October 2026 [1]. Databricks described end-to-end latencies in the millisecond range for operational streaming workloads [1]. It positioned the feature as a replacement for a separate engine such as Apache Flink, with batch, ETL and low-latency streaming in one framework [1]. ForEach sinks were part of the announcement [1].

On the same day, a video showed a digital twin of a manufacturing cell built with Spark Real-Time Mode, Lakebase, Databricks Apps and Unity Catalog [2]. Because sensor readings were processed instantly, operators could spot equipment faults, such as a hot spindle, before they caused wider problems [2].

Energy trading was the other theme of the month. An article on 23 October described running live trading and analytics on one platform, instead of separate systems that leave risk data stale and duplicate governance [3]. In that design, Structured Streaming Real-Time Mode streamed market data into Lakebase, a serverless Postgres service, which fed the trading app, ML models, dashboards and Genie One, with Unity Catalog applying governance [3]. A video on 14 October covered the same use case, including price forecasting and reporting in one environment with a single source of truth [5].

Also on 23 October, a community post announced that Python Asynchronous TransformWithState for Streaming reached general availability [4]. The source item had no summary, so no further details are recorded here. The month's items were announcements and demonstrations. None of them described community problems or open issues with Real-Time Mode.
