VS Code ExtensionChangelog · August 2026

The Databricks extension added automated cluster-matching Python environments and AI tooling support.

August brought four consecutive releases to the Databricks extension for Visual Studio Code, focusing heavily on environment consistency and developer workflows. The v2.14.0 release introduced automated local Python environment configuration, allowing developers to create a local virtual environment that directly mirrors the Python runtime version and library dependencies of a chosen Databricks cluster [3]. A subsequent update in v2.14.1 added live progress narration during environment creation, confirmation notices when setup succeeded with warnings, and safeguards preventing duplicate profile sections in configuration files during OAuth setup [2].

Earlier in the month, release v2.13.0 introduced built-in support for AI tools and added Unity Catalog capabilities inside Databricks Remote SSH mode, allowing users to start SSH tunnels directly from the editor alongside an update to the underlying CLI [6]. Patch release v2.13.1 followed with targeted stability fixes, addressing terminal command execution failures under Windows cmd.exe and resolving broken log channel displays on alternative editor distributions like Cursor [5].

By late August, version 2.15.0 refined the AI agent installation workflow by explicitly displaying incompatible agents within the picker interface and the Agents tree view, while introducing warnings for Databricks Asset Bundles that still used the deprecated Terraform engine [1]. Alongside official releases, the community also contributed DQX Forge, an extension built specifically for handling DQX operations within Databricks [4].
