FAQ

From r/databricks and the Databricks Community
How much does a Databricks certification cost?
Every paid exam is $200 USD, whether Associate or Professional, and so is the Data Engineer Associate renewal exam. There is no bundle price and no regional pricing, so the fee is the same in India as in the US. The Fundamentals accreditations, such as Databricks Fundamentals, Generative AI Fundamentals, and AI Agent Fundamentals, are free. The Platform Architect and Platform Administrator accreditations are free for Databricks customers and partners. Each retake costs the full $200 again, so check the vouchers on this page before you book.
# link to this question
How long does a Databricks cert stay valid?
Proctored certifications are valid for two years from the date they are awarded. To renew, you pass the current version of the exam again at the full fee. Data Engineer Associate also has a shorter renewal exam: 25 scored questions in 60 minutes, $200, online only, open once your credential has expired or is within two months of expiring. The Platform Architect and Platform Administrator accreditations are valid for one year. Databricks’ current Fundamentals pages state no expiry. Databricks says it tells you in advance when a certification is about to expire, and an expired credential stays visible with a warning that it has expired.

Free practice exams: where do I get them?
Databricks says plainly in its certification FAQ that it offers no practice exams. The exam guides carry a handful of sample questions with answer keys, and the official AI Prep Guide suggests generating a mock exam with the AI assistant you already use. Worth knowing what you are practicing for: the guide current as of May 4, 2026 puts the Data Engineer Associate at 45 scored questions in 90 minutes. Our own free, original practice sets live on the exam prep page, every code question executed on a real Spark engine first. Leaked-question sites are against exam policy.
# link to this question
Can I retake if I fail?
Yes. You can register again after 14 days, and every attempt costs the full exam fee. Databricks offers no free retakes and does not issue retake vouchers. Registering under a different name or email to skip the wait is against the exam terms and can cost you the certification. The free attempt Databricks announced in 2026 was a beta offer: each Data + AI Summit 2026 attendee could take the Context Engineer Associate beta once at no cost.
# link to this question
What's the difference between Associate and Professional?
Associate tests platform basics, typically 30 to 50 hours of preparation. Professional adds scenario questions on production patterns (performance, security, CI/CD) and assumes about a year of hands-on work, typically 60 to 100 hours of preparation. Both are valid for two years and both cost $200.
# link to this question
How do I get a voucher / discount?
Databricks says discounted vouchers are reserved for its events, beta exams, and partner organizations, or can be paid for with pre-purchased credits. In practice there are three routes. (1) The Learning Festival, which runs a few times a year for Customer Academy users: finish one of the listed learning pathways inside the window and you get a voucher for one exam (the June and September 2026 festivals gave 50% off). When a festival is open, we list it under Vouchers and discounts on this page. (2) Partner firms: if you work at a Databricks partner, request a Partner Certification Voucher through the Databricks Help Center. It is sent only to a partner company email, and the festival is not open to Partner Academy users. (3) Data + AI Summit, where the offer changes from year to year: in 2026 each attendee could take the Context Engineer Associate beta once for free. Festival vouchers cannot be combined with other offers.
# link to this question
Where do I take the exam?
Online proctored through Webassessor (Kryterion) from home, or at a physical testing center. The Data Engineer Associate renewal exam is the exception: it is online only.
# link to this question
Will the exam blueprint change while I'm studying?
Periodically, yes. Databricks refreshes its exam guides as the platform changes. It set October 9, 2026 as the cutover to a new Data Engineer Professional version, with 60 scored questions instead of 59. Check the exam guide PDF the week of your exam, because questions you studied against an outdated blueprint can sting.
